Welcome to our music program
Welcome to our music program
Dear Excelsior Families,
Welcome to a new school year at Excelsior Elementary, Home of the Eagles! Please use the tabs across the top of our site to navigate to the information you need (Calendar, Beginning Band, Advanced Band, Choraliers, Handouts, Helpful Tools and Resources). If you are a 5th or a 6th grader who would like to start an instrument for the first time this year, get ready....the AWESOME Granite Bay High School Band will be coming to Excelsior to demonstrate instruments on Friday. If you are a 6th grader in your second year of band....dust off those instruments & do a little practicing...we start next week starting with some kids on Wed. afternoon.
NEW THIS YEAR: There will be NO paper sign up forms for band. All 5th & 6th Grade Excelsior Families will receive a Google Form via email on August 19th. Please fill out this form ASAP, but no later than Monday, August 26th.
New Excelsior Beginning Band members: please plan on attending our Parent Meeting and Rental Night on Thursday, August 29th, pick from two sessions: 5:30-7pm or 7-8:30pm in the Excelsior MPR.
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Mrs. Elaine Wersky
How Band Works at Excelsior:
•If you are a 5th or 6th Grader this year, you may sign-up for band. Parents need to provide an instrument (rent or purchase), method book & supplies. There is no additional cost for the band instruction, but a donation is requested to support the cost of music, awards and activities.
•We will have an instrument demonstration assembly at the beginning of the year, as well as a parent information/rental night. Please, do not purchase or rent an instrument until your child has seen the instrument choices that are available.
•All band students will have 3 band classes per week: 2 before school at 8:00am and one during the school day (SEE SCHEDULE UNDER the CALENDAR TAB)
•If you are a returning band member (a 6th grader who has played for the entire 5th grade year), please click on the "ADVANCED BAND" tab (under the menu if using your phone) for more detailed information about band.
•If you are NEW to the Excelsior Band (a 5th grader or a 6th grader who would like to start band this year), please click on the "BEGINNING BAND" tab (or under the menu if using your phone) for more information.
•We have two choirs: The Boys' Choraliers (taught by Mrs. Wersky) and the Girls Choir (taught by Mr. Bartlett). Not only is it possible for band kids to also be in a choir, it's highly recommended as there are many valuable cross-overs between the skills in band and singing. For information about the choral program, click on the :CHORALIERS AND GIRLS CHORUS tab.
